Strategic Planning Initiative

NGCOA Embarked On Strategic Planning Initiative In October 2013, the NGCOA board of directors voted to proceed with development of a five-year strategic plan to ensure that the association continues to expand its membership offerings while bringing ongoing value to members. A strategic planning task force comprised of select board members has since been created and is pressing forward accordingly, including hiring a third-party strategic planning facilitator, Harrison Coerver & Associates based in Boca Grande, Florida.

“In this current environment— and for the future— the NGCOA feels it'’s crucial that the association not only remain relevant and influential in the golf industry, but that we offer programs, advocacy and support that assists our members in remaining relevant within their market and amongst golfers,” says Mike Hughes, CEO of the NGCOA. “The hiring of Harrison Coerver further underscores the association’'s commitment to this effort, as he literally wrote the book on remaining relevant as an association.” (Harrison Coerver co-authored “The Race For Relevance: 5 Radical Changes for Associations.”)

Gaining a deeper understanding of the needs of NGCOA members, chapters and other constituents was one of the first —and most essential— steps in this process.

“The key to this entire initiative rests in a thorough understanding of the issues that keep our members up at night, amongst each and every segment of NGCOA membership,” says Linda Rogers, outgoing president of the NGCOA and one of the driving forces behind the strategic review. “Only then can we develop the most impactful solutions for what matters most to our members. I feel confident we have the right team in place to ensure this happens.” As work progresses, a timeline will be developed, but it is estimated that a plan will be put in place in the coming months.
