NGCOA Awards Don Rossi Golf Scholarships for 2011
Five exceptional students have been selected to receive a total of $6,700 as part of the National Golf Course Owners Association’s Don Rossi Golf Scholarship for 2011. Applications were sent to twenty-five universities nationwide and the NGCOA received an overwhelmingly strong response. From those applications, five standouts have been selected as this year’s winners:
- Shawn Quella, University of Wisconsin–Stout
- Zachary Brehm, University of Colorado
- Thomas Paulino, North Carolina State University
- Jeremy Smith, New Mexico State University
- Lukas Dreger, University of Wisconsin–Stout
“The NGCOA is thrilled to recognize the hard work and academic achievements of this year’s Don Rossi Golf Scholarship recipients. It is encouraging to see the next generation of leaders take an interest in their education and the future of the golf industry,” adds Mike Hughes, CEO of the NGCOA. “We look forward to following their careers in the years to come, as they will certainly do great things.”
The Don Rossi Golf Scholarship was established in 1992 to provide support to promising juniors and seniors majoring in sports administration, golf enterprise management, sport management or a similar field, and who plan to pursue a career in a golf-related field. Since the program began awarding scholarship funds in 1999, more than $41,200 has been given to deserving candidates.
In addition to helping found the NGCOA, Don Rossi served as president of the National Golf Foundation and was executive director of the Golf Course Builders Association of America. Rossi died in 1990.
