Established in 1979 as the National Association of Public Golf Courses. Changed name in 1990 to National Golf Course Owners Association.

Membership of the NGCOA is diverse in its makeup as it includes owners and operators of daily-fee, semi-private, private and resort courses.
The NGCOA has regional, state and local chapters in the U.S., as well as affiliates in Canada and Europe.
